Privacy Policy
What we collect, why we collect it, and what we do with it — written to be read, not to be skimmed past.
“BabyGearWise is a small independent site. This policy is short because we collect very little, and we would rather tell you plainly than bury it.”
The short version
- We collect your email address and first name only if you choose to give them to us, by signing up for a free checklist or guide.
- We collect nothing else about you — no account, no profile, no payment details, no advertising or analytics tracking.
- We earn money from Amazon affiliate links. When you click one, Amazon sets its own cookies on Amazon’s site, not ours.
- You can ask us to delete your details at any time and we will.
In one sentence
If you never sign up for anything, the only thing we ever see is an ordinary web server log — the same as every other website you visit.
What we collect
Your email address and first name
If you sign up for a free checklist, a size chart or one of our tools, we ask for your first name and your email address. That is the whole form. We use it to send you the thing you asked for, and occasionally to send you another guide we think is useful.
Every email we send contains a one-click unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing removes you from the list.
Messages you send us
If you email us — for example to report a wrong weight limit or a price that has moved — we receive your email address and whatever you write. We keep it so we can reply and so we can fix the page.
Ordinary server logs
Like every website, our hosting records basic technical information when a page is requested: an IP address, the browser and device type, the page requested and the time. This is generated by the web server itself, not by any tracking script, and we use it to keep the site running and to spot abuse.
Information from your browser, not from you
Our pages are static. We do not run a customer account system, a comment system, a payment system or a profile of any kind.
What we do not collect
- No advertising trackers. We do not run ad networks or advertising pixels on this site.
- No analytics tracking. We do not load Google Analytics, or any equivalent, to follow what you read.
- No accounts. There is nothing to sign into and no profile to build.
- No comments. Comments are switched off, so we hold no commenter names, emails or IP addresses.
- No payments. We never ask for a card, and we never hold one.
- No sensitive data. We do not ask about health, and we do not want it.
If that changes — if we ever add analytics or advertising — this page will be updated before it goes live, not after.
How we use it
- To send you the checklist, chart or guide you asked for.
- To send the occasional follow-up email, if you have not unsubscribed.
- To reply to you when you write to us.
- To keep the site secure, working and free of abuse.
- To understand which pages are being read, in aggregate, from server logs.
We do not use your details for anything else, and we do not build a profile of you.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for anyone else’s marketing. Ever. The only companies that touch it are the ones needed to run the site:
Amazon
Our product links are Amazon affiliate links. When you click one, you leave our site and Amazon’s own privacy policy and cookies apply. We never send Amazon your name or email — the only thing we pass is the link itself, which tells Amazon the click came from us so we are credited if you buy. Order details are between you and Amazon; we never see them.
Our email list is stored on our own server and is also held in Google Sheets, which we use to manage the list and automate sending. That means your first name and email address are held in our Google account.
Our hosting and email providers
The site runs on a hosting provider, and emails to you are delivered through an email sending service. Both handle the technical data required to do that.
If the law requires it
We would disclose information if we were legally required to, and we would tell you unless we were legally barred from doing so.
Cookies and affiliate links
We keep this simple, because it is simple.
- We do not set tracking or advertising cookies. Nothing on this site follows you to other websites.
- We do not run a cookie banner, because there is nothing to consent to beyond what is strictly necessary for the page to load.
- Amazon sets its own cookie when you click one of our links, on Amazon’s site. That cookie is what credits a purchase to us. It is Amazon’s cookie, governed by Amazon’s policy. It costs you nothing extra.
If you sign up for a checklist and tick a box to remember you, a small first-party cookie may be stored by your own browser for that convenience alone.
Your choices and rights
Wherever you live, we will do the following when you ask, at no cost:
- Tell you what we hold about you — normally just a first name and an email address.
- Correct it if it is wrong.
- Delete it completely, along with any copy in our email list.
- Stop emailing you — the unsubscribe link in every email works in one click, and you never have to give a reason.
If you are in the UK or the EU, these map to your rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability and objection under the UK GDPR and GDPR. If you are in California, they map to your rights under the CCPA/CPRA, including the right to know and the right to delete — and note that we do not sell or share your personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of.
To use any of these, email us and we will action it.
Children’s privacy
BabyGearWise is written for adults — parents, carers and gift-buyers. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. We do not ask for a child’s name, date of birth or anything else about a child, and we do not want it.
If you believe a child has given us their details, email us and we will delete the record.
How long we keep it, and security
How long
We keep your first name and email for as long as you are subscribed. When you unsubscribe it comes off the active list; if you ask us to delete it, we delete it rather than archive it. Server logs are kept short and rotate automatically.
Security
The site runs over HTTPS, so what passes between your browser and us is encrypted. Our email list is held in our own account and in our Google account. No site can promise perfect security, and this one is run by a small independent publisher rather than a large company — so we keep the amount of information we hold deliberately small, which is the most effective protection there is.
Where your data is held
Our hosting and our email and spreadsheet providers are based in the United States, so your details may be stored there.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle your information, we will update this page and move the date at the top. If the change is significant — for example if we ever start using advertising or analytics — we will say so in an email to subscribers rather than quietly editing the page.
The date at the top of this page always tells you when it last changed.
Questions about your privacy?
Ask us what we hold, ask us to delete it, or just ask what any of this means. A person reads every message.
